Daydream Painting

This is a quick design process that I underwent in 3D Studio Max to try and create the atmosphere for my illusion. I'm trying to create an illusional painting on the studio wall but one thats deceiving from more than one angle. I don't want the work to just be one perspective. This is a piece of work that is one perspective.

Chair Design

My sketch idea for a never ending chair, it has elements of stair quality to it but its manipulating, actually both ends are the same height, it's just angle perception.
There are alot of works that are impossible to create from an image, it looks possible from the drawing but not necessarily possible to make in reality. I attempted to build this design but haven't been successful yet.
CHALLENGE
To create an impossible perspective
CONCEPT
To create an impossible perspective maybe in a tessellated format.
CONTEXT
An optical illusion of based on bad perspective. See other tessellated designs in the spirit of M.C.Escher.

Never Ending Chair

This is basically an example of someones work that brings me to the idea of an "Never Ending Chair." Please find the link below to see more examples.
www.metalshopdesigns.com/chairs.htm
Maybe the curve impression will bring about a manipulation or feeling of it never ending. I have completed a couple of sketch ideas that leads to my design.

The Prestige

I recently watched a movie called "The Prestige" which is basically a movie about Magicians and Illusions, I found it to be quite relevant to this particular assignment. In the movie there is a part where the one magician called "The Great Danton" seeks designs from a scientist to help him create an illusion for on-stage performance. When he meets up with this scientist called "Teslar" he shows him a light bulb that runs on touch, a field of energy, all these light bulbs are stuck into the ground and are running but there are no wires, just a generator thats miles away. Is it just an illusion or is it real? Great movie.

Material (Corian)

Corian is a solid surface material composed of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate made by DuPont. It is said to be a thermosetting plastic, but can be thermoformed by heating it to 300°F (149°C), allowing unique shapes to be created. Its primary use is for countertops.

Interesting Designs (Lamp)

I'm quite interested in designing a piece of furniture that causes a surprise once you learn what its used for. Like this Medusa Lamp, if the light wasn't on, you probably wouldn't know what it was, until the light is switched on. I'm also very interested in creating a chair that never ends too, but this will take planning and manipulation. Below I've added a bit of information on this lamp that I've found quite interesting.
The Medusa lamp [below], designed by Claudia Carrasco, a member of the Barcelona-based design collective Exposed. Here’s Carrasco’s description of here design, from designboom.com. Medusa Lamp Medusa conceived and made in Spain is so-called because of its elegant marine namesake meaning Jellyfish in Spanish. Made from laser-etched Corian, which perfectly captures the sleek form of the Medusa, it’s swooping curves and celestial light conjure images of drifting effortlessly along with the sea currents. A flexible element of coloured light can be added, facilitating dynamic ambient luminescence and a complimentary mood change. Materials: White Corian. Designs: 6 laser-etched designs. Colours: White (coloured bulbs alter lighting effect).

Masters of Deception - New York: Sterling Publications, Fall, 2004

I read a book called "Masters of Deception" which were works from Escher, Dali, and other Artists of Optical Illusions.

It's a collection that profiles the work of over fifteen optical illusion artists (Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Salvador Dali, Sandro Del Prete, Jos De Mey, M.C. Escher, Robert Gonsalves, Matheau Haemakers, Ken Knowlton, Scott Kim, Guido Moretti, Vik Muniz, Istvan Orosz, John Pugh, Oscar Reutersvard, Roger Shepard, Dick Termes, Rex Whistler), profiling their work in depth. Most of the work in this volume has not been previously published. There is no comparable volume available.

The information above is from bcl.seekbooks.com.au/PopCat.asp?storeurl=bcl...

Very deceptive works and very inspiring, I found this book to be of great inspiration. Building from what I've read and learn't on illusion, it's all a trick of the mind instead of seeing what we want to see we see what people show us instead.
